"content": "Collins Street Specialist Centre in Melbourne cares for people from interstate, Tasmania and New Zealand who need full-arch implant rehabilitation. Specialist prosthodontists design the new teeth, oral and maxillofacial surgeons or periodontists place the implants, and the treatment stages take place in Melbourne. Book without a referral on (03) 9650 2726.\n\n## Who is on the specialist team for a full-arch case?\n\nFull-arch work here is shared between disciplines. A prosthodontist designs the bite, the appearance and the fixed bridge. A surgeon or periodontist plans and places the implants. Specialists from different fields review complex cases together before your plan is settled.\n\n- [Prof Vasileios Chronopoulos](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/our-specialists/prof-vasileios-chronopoulos/): Specialist Registration in Prosthodontics (DEN0001856272)\n- [Dr Jamie Foong](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/our-specialists/dr-jamie-foong/): specialist prosthodontist (DEN0001022492)\n- [A/Prof Patrishia Bordbar](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/our-specialists/a-prof-patrishia-bordbar/): oral and maxillofacial surgeon (DEN0001010517); Past President of ANZAOMS, Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne and Consultant Surgeon at The Royal Children's Hospital\n- [Dr Ricky Kumar](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/our-specialists/dr-ricky-kumar/): oral and maxillofacial surgeon (DEN0001411504) holding medical and dental degrees; current secretary of the Victorian ANZAOMS\n- [Dr Simon Hinckfuss](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/our-specialists/dr-simon-hinckfuss/): specialist registration in both prosthodontics and periodontics (DEN0001008823)\n- [Dr James van den Berg](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/our-specialists/dr-james-van-den-berg/): specialist periodontist (DEN0001016928)\n\n## What are the stages of full-arch treatment when you travel in?\n\nWe agree the timing of each visit with you at your consultation, so the plan fits around travel from home. Extra procedures such as bone grafting can lengthen the timeline and add cost.\n\n### Stage 1: Assessment\n\nA medical and dental assessment confirms whether full-arch implants suit you. Imaging and digital planning are done at the centre, and your specialist explains the options, the alternatives and the cost of your own plan.\n\n### Stage 2: Implant surgery\n\nFull-arch implant surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic. Patients who hold private hospital cover can have it in a private hospital. Impressions for the bridge are taken as part of this stage.\n\n### Stage 3: Fit check the following day\n\nStay in Melbourne at least until the day after surgery, when your prosthodontist and dental prosthetist review how the new teeth sit and adjust them. Your surgeon will tell you when you are ready to go home, including by plane.\n\n### Stage 4: Healing\n\nThe implants need three to six months to settle into the bone before the permanent bridge is made. If something concerns you during this time, contact us; a dentist close to home can manage urgent care.\n\n### Stage 5: Final fixed bridge\n\nOnce healing is complete, the permanent bridge is fixed to the implants.\n\n### Stage 6: Maintenance\n\nA full-arch bridge needs professional upkeep. Twice a year a dental hygienist takes the bridge off and cleans around the implants. Some bridges are realigned every five to seven years, and porcelain can need repair with time. At home, use a soft brush, interdental brushes and a water flosser. Ask at your consultation how these maintenance visits can be scheduled when you live outside Melbourne.\n\n## How do I get started from another state or country?\n\nPhone (03) 9650 2726, or +61 3 9650 2726 from overseas, to talk about your situation before you lock in any travel. Ask your current dentist for recent x-rays, scans and clinical notes, bring copies to the assessment and let us know about them when you ring. Your treating specialist decides whether fresh imaging is required. Fees are quoted in Australian dollars.\n\nFrom Tasmania you share Melbourne's time zone and can come over by air or on the Spirit of Tasmania vehicle ferry. From New Zealand there are direct flights from the main cities, and Melbourne is generally two hours behind New Zealand time.\n\n## Can the specialists assess implant work that has failed?\n\nYes. Our specialists examine failed implants, crowns, veneers or dentures that fit poorly, and work that has not lasted, including treatment carried out overseas. They use a detailed examination and imaging where needed, give an independent second opinion and plan corrective treatment when it is required. Phone to arrange an assessment.\n\n## Frequently asked questions\n\n### Does a dentist have to refer me?\n\nNo. You can make an appointment with any of our specialists yourself. Dentists who want to refer a patient can phone (03) 9650 2726 or email theteam@collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au.\n\n### Will I be awake for full-arch implant surgery?\n\nNo. Full-arch surgery is performed under general anaesthetic, given by a specialist anaesthetist. The practice also offers nitrous oxide and oral sedation for other kinds of treatment.\n\n### Can I use an Australian payment plan if I live in New Zealand?\n\nGenerally not. Payright needs Australian permanent residence, Australian ID and an Australian mobile number, and a TLC personal loan needs Australian citizenship or permanent residency. Medicare rebates apply only to people who are eligible for Medicare. Check with your insurer before you travel.\n\n### Can I fly home straight after surgery?\n\nYou need to remain in Melbourne at least until the fit check the next day. After that, your surgeon advises when travel, including a flight, is suitable for you.\n\nResults, recovery times and risks vary for each individual. Seek advice from an AHPRA-registered practitioner before deciding on treatment.\n\n## Contact Collins Street Specialist Centre\n\nLevel 8, Manchester Unity Building, 220 Collins Street, Melbourne VIC 3000\nPhone (03) 9650 2726, or +61 3 9650 2726 from outside Australia\nEmail theteam@collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au\nHours: Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 8:30am to 1:30pm\n\n## Related pages\n\n- [All-on-4 full-arch implant rehabilitation](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/procedures/prosthodontics/all-on-4-full-arch-implant-rehabilitation/)\n- [Prosthodontics](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/procedures/prosthodontics/)\n- [Periodontics](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/procedures/periodontics/)\n- [General anaesthesia for dental treatment](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/sedation-anaesthesia/general-anaesthesia-for-dental-treatment-when-it-s-needed/)\n- [Information for international patients](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/about/information-for-international-patients/)\n- [Our specialists](https://directory.collinsstreetspecialistcentre.com.au/our-specialists/)\n",
